Moss. A typical moss rose with whiskered buds that open to quartered deep red to blackish purple blooms. Relatively small plant that has coarse foliage and lots of thorns but oh so beautiful in bloom. Fragrant and repeats well. Can be grown in a pot. 1873.

Damask. An enchanting old rose that became known around 1848 but is certainly older than that. The fully double purple blooms have an exquisite fragrance. The new foliage has a bronze tinge to it that contrasts nicely with the bright green, more mature leaves.

Hybrid Musk. A delightful rose with glossy green foliage and clusters of beautiful rich pink, dainty, yet fully double blooms. The blooms are fragrant and appear continuously throughout the summer. Will tolerate some shade. 1928.

Rugosa. A rose with simple exquisite beauty. Large, delicate, single, clear pink blooms with prominent stamens and a delightful fragrance. Blooms are followed by very large red hips and the autumn colour of the whole bush is splendid. Free-flowering throughout summer. Hardy and trouble free. 1914.

The large hips of Frau Dagmar Hastrup can be used for culinary purposes.

Gallica. A very Old rose. Large Crimson semi-double flowers, striped and splashed with pinks and whites. It is hardy with few thorns and matt green foliage. A very striking rose, which is pleasantly scented. Summer flowering.

Hybrid Perpetual. Very large, fragrant, creamy white blooms with a lemon blush at the base. Handsome leathery foliage. This rose has a strong upright habit and with few thorns. Flowers appear from summer to autumn. France 1885. Deciduous

Portland. A popular Portland rose of beautiful form and charm. The blooms are large, very double and the perfect 'old rose' formation. They are shaded a clear pink with edges that are slightly paler. Delicious fragrance and strong leathery foliage. Repeats well. France 1868.

aka Queen of Denmark

Alba. Named after the 'Queen of Denmark', this summer flowering Alba rose has very fragrant, double, quartered, mid pink flowers with a button eye. The flowers appear in plentiful clusters arching the branches with their weight. The foliage is a grey-green and quite coarse. 1826.

Hybrid Rugosa, Shrub. Sprays of medium red semi-double flowers with a slightly lighter reverse. None to mild fragrance. Naturally hardy with quilted grey-green foliage. Blooms in flushes throughout the season. Give her room to show off. Loves heat best.

Moss. The stems and buds of this lovely rose are decorated with reddish green furry 'moss'. The buds open to large, rich pink, informal blooms that are very fragrant and quite frilly. Repeats well and is easy to grow. Prune lightly after flowering. From France 1852.
